First, I showed up 30 minutes early for my MOHS surgery appointment and only had to wait about ten minutes. Then I had MOHS Surgery on a Friday at 9:30 am. Dr. Timani did the surgery herself. Then her husband sowed me up. It took him about an hour and a half to sew up my face. To say he’s meticulous is an understatement. The nurse said, he doesn’t like scars. After I left and got home, I received a personal phone call from Dr. Timani from her personal cell phone at 6:30 pm. I didn’t not call her back, but did text her. She texted me back within five minutes. During our texting, she asked me to contact her the next day (Saturday). Then the next morning I got up around 6:30 am on a Saturday and texted her a picture of my surgery. She answered me back within in five minutes AGAIN!!! I never had a doctor do something like that!! Most of the time you have to go through a answering service. Then, maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll get a call back on Monday. Dr. Timani, husband and her staff are great!! Thank you Dr. Timani!!PATIENT REVIEWS
A skin cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming. With the right surgical care, it becomes manageable and highly treatable.
At Johns Creek Dermatology, we provide precise, tissue-sparing skin cancer surgery with a focus on complete removal, cosmetic preservation, and patient comfort. From your first consultation through recovery, you will have clear guidance and a team focused on your outcome.
If you are not yet diagnosed and need evaluation, start with a skin cancer screening and full-body skin exam.
Comprehensive Skin Cancer Treatment Options
While Mohs surgery is often the preferred approach for many skin cancers, treatment is always tailored to your specific diagnosis. Depending on the type, size, and location of the lesion, care may include:
• Mohs surgery for precise, tissue-sparing removal
• Standard surgical excision for certain deeper or well-defined lesions
• Coordinated care for more complex cases when additional expertise is needed
In some situations, non-surgical options may be appropriate. When that is the case, we guide you toward the most effective approach, which may include:
• Topical therapies for select early-stage lesions
• Cryotherapy for targeted treatment
• Referral for radiation or systemic therapy when indicated
Every treatment plan is based on careful evaluation. Not every skin cancer requires the same approach, and our role is to recommend what is most effective while preserving your overall skin health.
What to Expect During Mohs Surgery
Mohs surgery is performed in-office using local anesthesia, allowing you to remain comfortable and awake throughout the procedure.
During your visit:
• The area is carefully numbed
• A thin layer of tissue is removed
• The tissue is examined on-site under a microscope
• Additional layers are removed only if necessary
This process continues until no cancer cells remain.
Most procedures are completed the same day. Depending on the size and location of the lesion, the visit may take several hours, as each layer is carefully analyzed to ensure complete removal.
What Is Mohs Surgery
Mohs surgery is one of the most precise and effective ways to treat skin cancer, with cure rates up to 99 percent for certain types.
It is considered the gold standard for treating:
• Basal cell carcinoma
• Squamous cell carcinoma
• Recurrent or aggressive skin cancers
• Skin cancers in cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face, ears, scalp, eyelids, and hands
This technique allows for complete cancer removal while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
How Mohs Surgery Works
During Mohs surgery, thin layers of cancerous tissue are removed one at a time and examined immediately.
This approach allows for:
• Complete cancer removal
• Minimal impact on surrounding healthy tissue
• High cure rates
• Optimal cosmetic outcomes
Because analysis happens on-site, results are confirmed the same day.
