Xeomin Works As Well As Botox & Usually Less Expensive

Posted by Johns Creek Dermatology in Injectables 14 Dec 2016

As of late, there has been a lot of talk about Xeomin. Many are claiming that it works just as well as Botox but it is usually less expensive. Now Botox and Xeomin are safe for all skin colors and skin types. However, there are some differences between the two.

Most Popular

Currently, Botox is the most popular cosmetic procedure worldwide. It is an FDA approved method utilized to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines. Due to its effectiveness, the popularity of Botox has drastically increased. Although it contains botulinum toxin, many prefer Botox as opposed to and microdermabrasion cosmetic methods. As well, it is a non-invasive treatment that does not involve major surgery such as a brow lift or facelift.

Other Dermal Injectables

Undoubtedly, there are other dermal fillers that do not contain botulinum like Botox such as Juvederm and Restylane. However, these injectables actually “fill out” the wrinkles instead of relaxing the muscles underneath. However, the newly FDA approved Xeomin offers the benefits of botulinum but in a completely different way.

A Single Ingredient

Xeomin is composed of just one ingredient – botulinum toxin A. However, it does not contain any additives like other dermal fillers. It is a much purer form that the body is most likely to accept. In fact, some patients acquired antibodies to Botox and Dysport, which in turn lead to their bodies rejecting the treatments.

When compared to Botox, Xeomin is about the same except for its purer ingredients. Xeomin is also measured in the same units as Botox. This makes the learning curve much easier for physicians and aestheticians.

And to top it off, according to the Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery, since there are no additives used, there is less risk of developing antibodies against Xeomin compared to other available neurotoxins. The Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery also adds that the cost of Xeomin will most likely be slightly lower than Botox. Plus the full effects of Xeomin are within a week and lasts three to six months, very similar to Botox.

The Cost

The cost of Xeomin is currently lower than Botox. But since it is relatively new to FDA approval, average costs are difficult to calculate.

The cost for treatments also involves several variables such as the amount of Xeomin needed and a patient’s needs. Generally, charges are calculated per units used during treatment. On the average, men need more units than women. This is because their muscles are bigger.
