PRP FaceLift and PRP Facial: A Unique, Patented Skin Treatment
The Hollywood secret is out, and the statistics show that the PRP Facial and Facelift have become incredibly popular anti-aging procedures. Shereen Timani, M.D. at Johns Creek Dermatology in Johns Creek, GA, is pleased to offer these two incredible procedures. All of the products used in this process are derived exclusively from the patient, so there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction. To eliminate any risk of intolerance, please discuss and disclose all medications and medical history with Dr. Timani.
Two Different Effective Treatments
The PRP Facial includes microneedling with (PRP) platelet-rich plasma. The PRP Facelift combines the science of hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® and unipotent stem cells to provide a customized procedure which smooths and plumps the skin in all the right places. Unlike other facial rejuvenation methods that make use of toxins, the PRP Facelift uses two naturally occurring ingredients. The first is hyaluronic acid which is a chemical normally found in the skin. This is injected as a dermal filler which produces immediate plumpness to smooth out deep wrinkles and folds. The second ingredient of the PRP Facelift and Facial lends the treatment its unconventional name.
Beneficial Procedure Using Your Own Blood
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is collected from your own blood by using a centrifuge to separate plasma that is rich in growth factors from patients’ own whole blood. After drawing your blood, it is spun in a high-speed centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. The PRP is then injected into the areas of your face which received the filler to stimulate the creation of new skin cells and regeneration of damaged cells. Platelets contain substances called growth factors that activate and rejuvenate cells in the body. The concentrated platelets in PRP contain tremendous amounts of bioactive proteins, which include the growth factors PDGF and VEGF. These growth factors initiate accelerate tissue repair and have positive effects on skin rejuvenation. The growth factors, when released, promote tissue repair, angiogenesis, or capillary formation, and collagen production. The goal is to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin and the create new skin cells. Your skin will glow and immediately feel smoother and softer, and progressive improvements continue for several months. This additional step extends the results of the PRP Facelift up to 18 to 24 months and if needed, patients can get touch-ups of the dermal fillers in between.
Benefits of the PRP Facial and Facelift
The procedure which combines microneedling with PRP is called the PRP Facial. There are several benefits of a PRP facial using microneedling:
- Tightens skin by accelerating collagen production
- Forms new blood vessels under the skin to give the skin glow
- Diminishes wrinkles and fine lines
- Improves skin tone and texture
- Reduces dark circles under the eyes and eye puffiness
- Ameliorates chronic rosacea
- Diminishes acne scars, sun damage, stretch marks
Results vary from patient to patient; On average, patients receive 3 treatments spaced one month apart. Optimal results are seen about 2 months after the last treatment. Many patients report seeing a benefit of the PRP treatment a few weeks after the first-to-second treatment.
Each treatment is typically about 45 minutes to an hour. Patients are required to use topical numbing cream 30-45 minutes prior to treatment. At the appointment, a small tube of blood is drawn similar to the amount required for a basic lab test. After the blood sample is collected, it is placed into a centrifuge that spins the blood to separate the platelets enriched with growth factors from other components of the blood.
Each patient is unique; therefore, results may vary.
