Microdermabrasion at Johns Creek Dermatology: General Information
Microdermabrasion at Johns Creek Dermatology is a skin-rejuvenating technique practiced by Shereen Timani, M.D., that helps repair facial skin that has been affected from the sun and effects of aging and is sometimes referred to as a, “Lunch Time Peel” because the procedure only takes a short time to perform and then you can quickly return to work and any other activities with rejuvenated, refreshed skin. It is effective in reducing fine lines, spots caused by sun damage, minor acne scars, cleans pores and stimulates the production of skin cells and collagen.
As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation. In fact, many of our patients at Johns Creek Dermatology come for a microdermabrasion on a regular basis because it makes their skin look so vibrant and healthy.
About the Procedure
Ultra-fine crystals gently exfoliate your skin while a vacuum removes the crystals along with the dead skin cells. There is absolutely no discomfort and many say a microdermabrasion is very soothing and calming. The aesthetician at Johns Creek Dermatology will apply a sunscreen at the end of the procedure to protect the delicate skin. You should continue using sunscreen every day to prolong the effects of the microdermabrasion. By repeating this process over several weeks or months, the younger, softer skin moves to the surface, revealing significant skin textural, tone and color changes.
Even after your first treatment, you will notice a nice glow in your skin. Improvements in your skin’s appearance will continue throughout your treatment program. Acne scars will be less obvious, age spots and fine lines will diminish, and many patients report that their skin seems to be softer, smoother and younger looking.
Microdermabrasion treatments are good for all skin types, textures and pigments. The treatments are not aggressive and work progressively and slowly but the results are wonderful. Just imagine having healthy, beautiful skin all the time.
Aftercare and Recovery
Your skin may feel tight as if it were exposed to the sun or wind. This feeling will last for awhile after the treatment. Some skins may peel but most do not. Keep your skin moisturized with the proper products and sunscreen as suggested for your particular skin type by the aesthetician. Your skin may turn pink to red but should reside in a few hours or perhaps a day or two.
Each patient is unique; therefore, results may vary.
