As we age, our faces are shaped in part by the movement of our facial muscles, resulting in the formation of permanent lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, along the sides of your eyes, around your smile. However, due to a person’s facial expressions, especially repetitive movement such as frowning or eye crinkling while smiling, such lines can actually form at any stage of your life.
Wrinkle inhibitor injectables, including Botox and Dysport, are frequently used to reduce the look of lines in these areas by inhibiting muscle contraction, the underlying cause of the lines. If reduction in frown lines or other expression lines is an aesthetic goal, Johns Creek Dermatology may recommend a non-surgical wrinkle inhibitor injectable because of its’ relaxing effects to the muscles underlying the expression lines, while preserving your natural facial expressions.
The injection treatment procedure generally takes about 15-20 minutes. Specific muscle groups are targeted based on characteristics of the lines, location of the problem area, strength of the underlying muscles, and your desired outcome. Results may be managed to create a completely smooth aesthetic, or varied levels of mobility may be retained. The injections will slowly reduce muscle activity and prevent muscle contractions, thus softening the expression lines. Treatment is temporary and will last approximately 3 months.
