Dr. Timani Offers the Latest in Facial Anti-Aging Procedures
Nobody wants to walk around feeling like they need to hide their face. Unfortunately, scars and signs of aging can make us feel insecure about showing the world who we are. Are you struggling with scarred or aging skin that you’d like to change? Shereen Timani, M.D. and the team at Johns Creek Dermatology specialize in offering effective, cutting-edge scar repair and facial anti-aging treatments. One of the most popular techniques we offer for addressing skin issues is microneedling.
Microneedling is the talk of the town in celebrity circles. You’ve probably seen this procedure mentioned in beauty magazines, chatted about in the tabloids or featured on talk shows. Stars like Bar Refaeli and Kim Kardashian have both used the treatment. Even male celebrities like Rupert Everett enjoy the benefits of microneedling.
Who Should Consider Microneedling?
Anyone who is unhappy with the appearance or texture of their skin is a good candidate for a microneedling procedure. Microneedling can help to make skin appear more youthful and get rid of fine lines and blemishes. However, you don’t need to wait until you see things in the mirror that you don’t like to begin microneedling treatments. Many younger patients visit us here at Johns Creek Dermatology because they are interested in using microneedling as a way to preemptively address signs of aging and keep their skin looking fresh. Microneedling is also commonly used as a treatment for scar repair by people who are looking for effective ways to get rid of acne scars. Many patients see significant fading of scars after having this treatment done.
What Is Microneedling?
A microneedling procedure relies on a single-use needle cartridge to create tiny punctures in the skin’s top layer. Microneedling is often referred to as collagen-induction therapy. The punctures that are created actually cause your body to send fibroblasts to the affected area. This results in thick, improved skin. The microneedling procedure typically takes around 15 minutes. This is a very safe and sanitary treatment. Shereen Timani, M.D. uses an American-made tool called the SKINPEN for microneedling procedures that are done in our office.
What can patients expect when they show up for a microneedling appointment? A cream is used to numb the skin prior to the treatment. Patients can expect their skin to be slightly pink immediately following the procedure. Small scabs that fade away in a few days do sometimes appear. Treatments can be done every three to six months. Some patients with severe acne scarring opt to do one session per month for up to six months.
A Look at What Microneedling Can Do for Skin
Microneedling is effective for addressing skin issues like wrinkles, fine lines, uneven texture and enlarged pores. Shereen Timani, M.D. offers microneedling with or without platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Of course, microneedling and PRP make a very dynamic duo. PRP injections are often effective at increasing a treatment’s success level. PRP is especially useful when it comes to promoting tissue repair, collagen production, cell growth and quick healing. Many patients also opt to have fillers done at the same time they do microneedling to create a very rejuvenated look.
Why PRP Is a Safe and Effective Choice for Patients
PRP is a great choice for helping patients achieve their aesthetic goals with very little risk. PRP treatments use a patient’s own blood to promote growth. This means that the chances of rejection or infection are removed.
