What is Restylane?
At Johns Creek Dermatology we offer a less invasive alternatives to cosmetic surgery with dermal fillers. One of the widely used injectable fillers by Johns Creek dermatologist Dr. Shereen Timani is Restylane, a safe and natural dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid that restores fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds ( the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth, marionette lines (the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline), the area above the mouth to the base of the nose, fill fine lines, and fill dark circles. It is one of the few dermal fillers suitable for plumping lips and softening vertical lines around the mouth. In fact, Restylane is the only FDA-approved product for lip enhancement in patients over 21 years, as it is uniquely formulated to create fullness and definition in lips with natural looking results. Restylane is injected into the middle to deep dermis layer of the skin in order to fill superficial lines, providing natural-looking results with just one treatment.
Results last about six months. Restylane does not require any skin testing, unlike collagen based products.
How does Restylane work?
Restylane is specifically formulated as a clear hyaluronic acid gel formulation which acts like your body’s own hyaluronic acid, and eventually it breaks down naturally. The Restylane is injected using a fine needle under the skin, where it works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. As with other injectable fillers, you might experience swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness after treatment. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in lips. Younger patients may experience more swelling side-effects, while bruising may be more likely in more mature patients.
